This site is for adults. Gambling carries a real risk of financial and personal harm, and no model removes that risk.

What our own measurements do not promise

We publish our track record, including the intervals around it, precisely so that it cannot be read as a promise. Two things follow from that, and we would rather write them here than let a number imply otherwise:

• A model that beats the closing line is not the same as a model that makes money. Closing line value is the best known predictor of long-run profitability; it is not profitability.
• An edge measured over hundreds of decisions says nothing about the next one. Variance dominates any single result, and long losing runs are a normal property of a positive edge, not a sign that something has gone wrong.

Signs that gambling has stopped being a choice

• Staking more than you had decided, or more than you can lose.
• Chasing losses, betting to recover, rather than because you saw value.
• Borrowing money to bet, or hiding the extent of it from people close to you.
• Gambling to escape stress, low mood, boredom or sleeplessness.
• Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down.

Tools that work better than willpower

• Self-exclusion. In Great Britain, GAMSTOP blocks you from every licensed online operator at once. In France, the ANJ maintains the national register of voluntary gambling bans.
• Deposit and loss limits set on the operator's side, before you need them rather than after.
• Blocking software such as Gamban or BetBlocker on your phone and computer.
• Bank-level blocks. Most retail banks can now refuse gambling transactions on request, with a cooling-off delay before the block can be lifted.
